What is the point to buy an warranty

Business & Finance

Good morning. I have bought an Mahindra Scorpio 2.6 TDI 4X4 in August last year with about 89 000 km on the clock. As it is a second hand vehicle i also bought a warranty. I have taken the vehicle for it`s services as needed to keep the warranty in place. Sins October 2012 i started to have problems with the vehicle. First the alternator gave problems and was replaced. Then the clutch slave cylinder was replaced. In April 2013 the gearbox ceased while driving. My wife toured with an group to Namibia and on the way back the gearbox ceased while she was driving the vehicle on the open road. No leakages were previously observed from the gearbox. According to the service centre (Koops mr D de Jong 012335333) the oil in the gearbox leaked out while my wife was driving because of an seal failure. The warranty which i kept up to date refuse to pay out for the repairs on the gearbox as in there opinion it was a defective seal. My question now is how we could have known that the seal have broken while driving as no indication or warning lights were available. What caused the seal to broke as it was part of the serviced to check the gearbox oil. I have the vehicle 7 months. Km now 111000
