Problems with Debit Cards with Chips

Business & Finance

I used to have a normal Debit Card but it expired earlier this year. Thereafter I was issued with a debit card with a chip. The result is that I can no longer manage my finances. When I'm at the shop I no longer have the option to pay from my cheque or savings. Deductions from my savings are also no longer being displayed immediately. There's a delay now. I've been to the branch in Centurion and I was told its the shop whose software is not updated. I've been to the shop and was met with surprise. Today I went back to the bank. Whilst I was there I overheard many clients complaining about the same problems. The staff told me that they are aware of these problems and cling to their Debit Cards without the chip. A colleague also told me that the ABSA Debit Card with the chip is also not being accepted at any Mcdonalds. I'm considering moving to another bank, after 20 years, as I'm tired of all these issues with my cards.
