Qantas Airways
Expensive Flight on Old SAA Aircrafts

Traveling & Tourism

We recently traveled to Perth from Johannesburg and booked through Qantas (departed 20/12/12 and returned 2/1/13). As we were travelling over Christmas the flight prices we quite inflated (which we expected), so when you pay such a high price (almost R40000 for two persons), you do expect a decent plane, with individual entertainment, decent food etc. So when we boarded our flight onto an SAA plane we were highly disappointed with what we got. Firstly we were not sitting together (even after requesting this at the check-in counter - surely when you book together you get placed together and this was the same on return), then we got onto a very old plane - no individual entertainment, only one screen for our area, the food was dismal and bathrooms horrid. On return on 2 Jan, the plane at least was better with individual entertainment however the staff had forgotten to load headphones for most economy passengers (what a joke) so we couldn't enjoy any entertainment. My complaint is, surely Qantas need to check that the SAA planes are up to standard. Your name is on the line. We don't mind paying the high price but then we expect what we pay for. Flying Emarites would have been better!
