Customs clearance delays durban

Flying in from Dubai on ek775, after a 9 hour flight and 2 hour delay on the runway, I watched incredulously as we had to queue at the nothing to declare channel after waiting ages to collect our luggage.this caused a further delay of 1 hour or longer as we were individually questioned by customs officials.for me having travelled extensively internationally, through countless airports, this was a world first.what then is the purpose of passport control? this was the first time that I used international arrivals in Durban and probably my last if this kind of trend continues.clearing customs in johannesburg is a painless, pleasant process comparatively.in every airport, the world over, you walk smoothly through the 2 channels and can be stopped and luggage searched etc if the customs official deems fit.there were many irate passengers and waiting relatives at the airport. Shame on you Durban for such incompetence and over extension of your customs official's roles.
