Fully paid contract, refusing to cancel membership

My Mother, Mrs V Odendaal, has ben a memeber of Flexiclub for over 15 years. Her membership has been fully paid up long ago. She is currently 78 and unable to afford the annual subscription fees, which is going higher each year. She is also unable to walk unassisted, therefore cannot make use of the benefits anymore. Upon our first request to cancel membership, they advised her to go over to The Select Club, at a fee of R1750, then the annual subscription fee is only R450 but when she books a holiday she has to pay for it, so there is absolutely no benefit. Oh, and then you can cancel anytime you want. When she responded that if she can cancel then, why can't she cancel now, they responded that she does not qualify to cancel, since the fees for 2014 has not been paid yet!! That is next year and there is still three months left of this year, which is a sufficient notice period. Could you please assist her with the cancellation?
