Paying double the price on my tickets

I had arrived 10 minutes after the boarding had closed, however the plane was only set to leave 30 minutes later and they refused to make a consession, in addition to that i had to pay the full price of the air tickets again to get onto the next flight, even though my flight had not taken off as yet. i just dont understand the logic
