Returned Faulty modem within 7 day window period

I signed a 12 month data contract with Cell C for R189/mnth at the Newcastle Mall but it did not include a modem so I bought a modem which included 3 gigs of data. The contract stated that if device is faulty or I am not happy with the service I can return the modem and cancel the contract within 7 days. After using it for 2 days I found the modem not connecting to the internet. Unfortunately at the time I was on holiday but managed to get to a cell c store on the 6th day to return the modem at a store in Durban. Because i did not produce the original packaging they did not take it in. At the Newcastle store they took it in but it was after the 7 days had passed so 1 staff member told me within 7 days I will receive it and another told me 3 weeks. Its 3 months gone and I still haven't received my modem. every time I go to the store they give me a story. What about the time I've lost on my 12 mnth contract. Is Cell C prepared to extend my contract and will I ever get a new modem. Whenever I go there the store manager is never in and theirs always new staff on the floor. I'm fed up. What can I do.
