'NEW PHONE' BREAKS DOWN LESS THAN 30 DAYS

Following up on this contract, the baterry of the new phone just stopped recharging less than a month after getting the phone. I took the phone to vodaworld for repair and was given a job number 8762264. Two days later I went back to check on the progress and was told the phone was sent to the advance unit. I informed the lady I will be leaving the country for a week and she put a note on the system that the phone should be kept till my return. I returned to SA today and went to collect the phone and found a message telling me to pay money because there is a lock code on the phone, then I realised the phone was never checked at vodaworld before being sent to the 'advance unit'. I went to vodaworld and asked why I should pay the money for the code when I twice went to their office and no one ever mentioned to me about giving them a code, the lady at reception told me there is no need to pay, I gave the code and went home. I just called 0821944 and spoke to Nicole and she is adamant I have to pay R150 for having a code on my phone. As a new client, and not having been asked the code by their consultants, how would I know about giving them the code?
