No IMessage or Facetime via cellphone numbe

"Ported from Vodacom to 8ta. I am still unable to activate my IMessage or Facetime via my cellphone number. 8ta call centre no help at all. I get the idea they don't even know what IMessage or Facetime is. So after a bit emailing them I get the following reply: (Note the spelling)

Please note that you can only activate your face time and imassage with your email address and not with a phone number. not its only apple to apple.
What now??

It works like this: iMessage sends a hidden SMS to a short code to register the phone number. Since that SMS message never gets out, the phone number registration process can never complete. I am also not able to rent any movies via the DSTV Box Office SMS system.
