Received a bill of R2 561 for a 3G contract

About 1.5years ago I got a 1.5 GB 3G internet contract from Vodacom for a monthly fee of R299. Since then, I also got an Ipad which I use most of the time and therefore have about 1GB left every month on the 3G contract.
In Dec I received an invoice to the value of R2 561 on the 3G contract which cannot possibly be correct. I phoned Vodacom to query the invoice, who in turn told me that I need to pay for itemised billing first before they can investigate the matter.
I have no doubt that this is a billing error from Vodacom - why must I pay? Can someone please tell me where I used all of this data?
