Dnt send your iphone in for repairs

I sent my iphone 5 in for repairs at a cellc store on the 30 of December 2013 I got it back to day the 10 of January 2014. just to be told they cant fix it as they cannot unlock the phone.
Firstly it takes them over 10 days to tell me this. Then they tell me I must send it back in again so they can fix it after the person at the store now take off the password. but it will now take another 21 days for them to get it back to me.

do not understand why they don't have a walk in serves where you can take it and they will fix it straight away.
another thing the phone is only a year old and the battery does not last so, is a wonderful phone but with out any battery power is a useless phone.
