Why can't I make calls or even send SMS's?

I like in a suburb of Edenvale not far from the OR Thambo freeway. What I'd love to understand is why I can barely make a phonecall or, oft-times, even send an SMS.

if I lived in the middle of nowhere, I could understand the lack of coverage but this is a fairly heavily populated area with a LOT of businesses. I use a brand new Note 3 phone, but I get the same problem regardless of the handset.

Come on guys, you're making so much money you'd think you could spend a LITTLE cash on the infrastructure every now and then - Perhaps instead of trousering it and paying out massive bonuses the the 'management' (I used the term loosely of course)

For the record, I have no interest in receiving a placatory phone call explaining how "You're working on it" I won't believe you and the chances are you won't get through anyway because the signal is unserviceable.
