Sim swap my problem???

Yesterday the 26th of October I could no longer receive Whatsapp's or use the internet. Today the 27th I called Sulaiman at the Autopage Canal Walk branch.
I was first upset because he didn't even ask me for my number, but instead just asked me if I had airtime or data left?

After he went into my account he said that everything on his side is right, but MTN changed something that the "old" 32k simcards can no longer use the internet and that I am liable for a R140 sim swap???

Why is this my financial burden to bear if it is something from MTN of Autopage that changed?
I am now more than 14 years a client from Autopage and never fell into arrears or breached my contract in any way?
