Can't get a cell phone contract

I wanted to apply for a cell C Contract. I was contacted by the contact centre, as I tried to apply a couple of months before and was told I need a credit record. I have a loan I am paying off and a credit card, but this apparently is not sufficient enough.
I was told today, I have to open a clothing account or a retail account, which I believe is nonsense. I thought having no accounts is a good thing, as I don't have debt and can pay a cell phone account.
The service I have received was very rude and I am very disappointed.
