Not honoring guarantee on route

Purchased a D-Link DSL275OU ADSL Router from the shop in Vaal Mall in March. on 19/08/2013 it stopped working, and I took it to the shop for repair/replacement after phoning D-Link to ensure that it is still under guarantee, as I have lost my proof of purchase. They confirmed that this specific unit has only been on the market for about 8 months, and is thus within it's two-year guarantee period.
The lady at the shop (name not taken) refused to exchange it without proof of purchase. I requested that she phone D-Link to confirm that it is still under guarantee. She did, and they confirmed. However, the non-existence of the proof of purchase - according to their "system" - prohibited her from proceeding with an exchange for a new unit.
She requested me to phone her superior, Me. Pam Ndyenge on 016 931 0088.
After six calls to this number, and on each occasion receiving a recorded message to call 10210 I phoned the 10210 number, but in their "system" there is no provision to assist someone that does not have a contract with them.
I purchased a new unit as I need it on a daily basis. Surely, with the existing proof, they should honor the guarantee and return my money?
