Does it take 6 months to cancel something?

I logged a call with Mtn on the 11th of February this year to have my contract cancelled. (As our new premises has no reception). They referred me to their Coverage Department to assist with the cancellation. I spoke with the call center and the said someone would phone me within 10 days. No one did so I phoned back after 10 days. Again they promised someone would call me, no one did. To my utter disgust this pattern continued until the 14th of June! In that time I called them twice a month. Even when I refused to hang up and demanded to talk to a senior person (on more than one occasion), they were NEVER available and never called me back. Eventually on the 14th June I stood fast and refused again to hang up untill I had spoken to someone, when I got through to Yaseem. He checked and verified my no signal claim within minutes and sent an email to their cancellations department confirming this. On his request I took my modem into our nearest Mtn branch the next day. But at the end of June I had to return as they deducted the money once again and had no record of my cancellation. Again I requested the cancellation but this month it went off again!
