Mtn
Poor service, and a damaged phone

Telecommunications

I have a blackberry 9790 on an MTN contract, and approximately 3 months after receiving the phone the unlock button on the top of the phone broke and it was unusable. I took the unit to my MTN service provider where they advised me to send it for a review as it was only 3months old & would qualify for a new handset. My review was rejected and the phone was sent back to me unrepaired stating that physical damage disqualified me from receiving a new phone. It was followed with a quote of R1500 to repair damage, which I couldn't afford. I was forced to repair the phone by my own means which cost only R400 using original blackberry parts. It looked new&was in perfect working order until a few months later I had keypad trouble. Again it was sent to MTN for repairs. I received a reply that the warranty was now void because the phone was opened & a repair quote of R2500. I also noticed the phone was opened & resealed with glue, & the unlock button had a crack.i later learned that that unlock button on the blackberry 9790' is a common factory weak spot and numerous phones were replaced. Had mtn done their job correctly I would not b sitting with a broken phone which is not under warranty!
