Struggling for more than a year to clear default

A little over 3 years ago I walked into a Vodacom shop to cancel my 3G contract. 20 minutes later i walked out of the shop under the impression that at the end of the month the contract would be terminated. I checked my banking statements about 2 months later to make sure the debit order had stopped going off my account, which it had. Then 2 years later i get a threatening call from vodacom demanding i pay the arrears on the account. After 3 hours of fighting with their accounts department on the phone, they eventually said it was ok they will clear it from my records and they are sorry about the inconvenience. They also had their legal department send me a letter saying that it would be cleared from my record. Then a year after that i happen to apply for another cellphone contract and get denied because there is a default listed on my credit history by vodacom. The default is listed as "account paid in full" which is rubbish i never paid the account because it was listed in error. after more fights and hours on the phone they now claim that the listing has been cleared, but have not been able to confirm it as yet... everyone is constantly 'waiting for feedback'.
