Phone not working immediately after contract

Telecommunications

I took up a contract for a Blackberry 9300 in April 2011. I never used any other sim card on it except the contract one. It ended in March 2013. After that, I upgraded to a Samsung, and used my old sim card on it. I put another sim card in the Blackberry, and it wouldn't work. I thought the phone was locked to one network, but it doesn't work with any other sim card that I try to use on it. I sent the phone to Nashua for repairs. After a couple of days, they called me to say I had to pay R1 800 for them to fix it. The phone belongs to me now, and I do not undestand why it does not work with any sim card. It seems locked. I refused for them to repair it. I asked them to return it to me unfixed because the phone is worth less than that. I can buy a brand new phone with that amount. They called me to say it was available for me to fetch at my nearest Nashua. When I went to fetch it, I discovered that they had fixed it and wanted me to pay the money. I was also told that if I took the phone, I would be acknowledging that I would pay the amount. I will not be paying the money, so I refused to take it. I am extremely disappointed, and do not see myself taking another contract with Nashua
