MY CONTRACT HAS EXPIRED!!! STOP BILLING ME!!!

I'm greatly disappointed by Virgin Active, i took out my contract a year ago in which it expired 28th February 2013 and to my surprise i'm still being billed!! My understanding of the contract is that if it expires you stop paying!! I don't understand why i still have to pay. I'm so furious and disappointed in Virgin active, i just want out. My plan was to renew the contract later this year but with this happening, i can't anymore. I called their offices but i didn't get a sensible explanation, i also asked to speak to someone who can help me but they conveniently all not available. I just want out of all this mess.
