Refusal to keep pre contract commitment

I joined Kinetic Gear for group fitness training. Before I joined in mid July 2013 I knew that I would be going on holiday at the beginning of August so I asked what would happen with the sessions I missed and was told I would be able to make them up. I was not given any contract.

Towards the end of July 2013 I had bronchitis and laryngitis and needed to miss three sessions. On the very first day I went in, in person to find out whether I could make up the missed sessions - none of the trainers or owners were there so I left a written message with the receptionist asking my trainer to phone me. A few days later I hadn't heard anything so I phoned and left another message. After still not receiving a response I went in to the gym to speak to the owner who assured me the sessions would be caught up.

It is now October 2013 and the sessions have not been caught up despite having been paid for and numerous reminders to the owner. In fact every time I asked about making up the sessions I was told they just needed to check the schedule and they would come back to me, but they never did. Today I was told that they will not make up the sessions and I will lose the money paid.
