Makro
Misleading Advertising

Shops, Products, Services

Makro needs to be comprehensively honest in their advertising and sales advice.

I saw the following special deal: [URL Removed] on the internet, so went and bought the deal this Saturday past. I expressly queried what the voucher gives me, and was assured by the salesman that it's an installation voucher, and my ZAR1800 would get me an HD PVR fully installed.

The installation company, when making my installation appointment then tells me that the installation excludes a dish (ZAR450) and if their technician spends more than an hour installing it (which is quite possible), I'll be on the hook for ZAR350 per hour. An HD PVR fully installed therefore really costs me ZAR (1800 450 350 (n-1)) = {ZAR2250, ZAR2600, ZAR2950} for n=1, 2, 3 is the number of hours that they spend installing the thing.

So instead of getting a great deal (with a ZAR1200 saving), and becoming a DSTV subscriber, I'm left disappointed through being mislead first by the internet advert (which doesn't tell you the catch upfront) and later by an incompetent salesman in-store. I was also inconvenienced by having to return the infernal package today.
