Thalmache Kennel
Pedigree pup sold with latent congenital defect

Shops, Products, Services

On 6 January 2013 my daughter took delivery of a Bulldog pup of 6 weeks in age from Thalmache Kennel.

Within 2 weeks this pup developed symptoms of severe back pain which was diagnosed as a vertebral malformation (butterfly vertebra) by two x-rays examinations performed by two veterinarians and both concluded that the long term prognosis was "guarded" and euthanasia was a humane option.

This particular spinal congenital deformation in Bulldogs is recognized within the veterinarian practice.

According to Thalmache Kennels, a veterinarian inspected the pup before delivery and passed it fit for transfer. I doubt the vet X-rayed the pup for possible vertebral abnormality. Given the breeds susceptibility to butterfly vertebra, an x-ray examination would not be out of order.

As the pup grew and added weight the butterfly vertebra syndrome caused pressure and severe pain for the pup eventually resulting in hind paralysis and euthanasia.

The breeder denies and rejects all responsibility for the pup with congenital defects and maintains that after delivery none of the aforementioned is of her concern and this becomes the purchasers responsibility.
