Ridiculous implimentation of policy and poor staff

On Sat 02/02/2013 I made a purchase by credit card at the Parys Store. The assistant was Cynthia and she was very helpful. Once I had paid I was presented with the Credit Card Slip which I signed. I was then asked to write down my tel and ID number. When I asked why they need my ID no, I was told that it is to prevent and it is the companies policy. This was illogical to me, cos if I was a criminal using a credit card fradulently, I would also about my telephone no and ID no. Please note that at no point was I asked to produce any form of ID, just to write down my number!!

This did not make sense to me so I asked Cynthia to show me the policy and at this point, a very arrogant and rude Teresa became involved and insisted that I give them my ID no as it is company policy. I asked her to please provide me with the policy as it seems silly to ask for a number, but not the actual ID. She disappeared and after about 6 minutes, I asked again where is the policy, she shouted she is looking on the computer. I left after a further 4 minutes without seeing the policy. I did leave my ID no. to put Cynthia at ease.

Can this ridicoulous policy be explained to me?
