Pioneer Foods
Green, mouldy wasabi like foreign substance in rice

Shops, Products, Services

After reporting on Spekko's customer care site that I found mould like matter in their rice on or about 3 March 2013, they wasted no time to send their representative around to come and collect the sample. I was told to dispose of the rice.By 15 March I received no response, I contacted them and was told they are awaiting lab results, I contacted them again via e-mail on 4 April.By some miracle the results came in the next day, mould! Regrettably I do not know the name of the lady who called me, she reported that they had received many similar complaints and attributed it to a faulty batch due to rain or something else, standard PR response.
As a major in the FMCG industry, I think Pioneer Foods failed dismally by firstly not ensuring that contaminated produce is identified in their quality control programme and secondly in the way that they handled the matter once they became aware of the problem. Surely if you are aware of such instances, you recall your product and when some reach consumers you do not take 30 days to reply as to what the cause and effects of the contamination is. I doubt if the substance was ever tested in their lab. Accountability? Zero.
