9 Years to allocate customer?

I had a Milady's account that was opened in 2001; I have paid it up and closed the account sometime in 2003/4. Now suddenly 9 years later I get a phone call from MBD Attorneys stating that I have been handed over by Milady's for an amount of R216.00. I have contacted the Attorneys to send me a statement and no respond from them.
What I need to know is, why was I never notified by correspondence? And did it take them 9 years to allocate me? This account was closed and no proof can be provided because who keeps record for 9 years.
I need answers from Milady's because of this it will affect my credit record
