Makro
Selling damaged goods and refusing to refund

Shops, Products, Services

My Aunt Nomusa Mdletshe of KwaMashu bought a Hisense Fridge from Makro in Springfield in September last year. In less than a week the bottom handle fell off because it wasn't fixed properly. In less than six months the fridge has stopped working. She reported the matter and a week and a half went by without even a call from Makro (I'm not sure how she was supposed to carry on without a working fridge for that long). I've personally made phone calls to both Makro and Hisense to find out what's going on and all they do is put you on hold and then eventually hang up the phone. Joanne from Hisense in Durban was not very helpful, and stressed that they do not replace faulty appliances, and I must go back to Makro. The staff at Makro is appauling and are quick to say they'll put you through to the manager (whom never picks up the phone). Firstly you should not knowingly sell faulty appliances and think you can get away with it. And this I will report to the consumer ombudsman and seek legal aid as it is against the law. And we were told that we can't get our money back and when they feel like it they come fix the fridge. If it's faulty they must just take it back.
