Absa Debit Card can't be used in Woolworths stores

I got a new Absa debit chip card end Nov. It works in every store and restaurant... except Woolworths. Tried three stores and each time a message comes up to say must ask customer for alternative tender. None of the managers could help me or knew why it was doing this but admitted it happens regularly. When it does the customer is expected to go and find an ATM to draw cash.
I sent an e-mail to WW to ask if their system is not compatible with some cards. Got a response on 6th Jan to say my query had been passed on.
Today, 14th Jan, am still waiting for an answer.
Clearly they do not need my business.
Have checked with Absa and the problem is not with my card as it works everywhere else.
