On 14-12-2013 I accompanied my mother to the Centurion Mall branch of Checkers so that she could make a pension withdrawal with her Sassa card. We approached a cashier to make the withdrawal of R 1250 . She called Lucy Manganye, the front end controller to request this amount as she did not have this amount in her till. Lucy then very rudely stated that it was too early to make a cash withdrawal of that amount. Lucy did not make any attempt to ask any of the other cashiers if they had this amount available, or visit the cash room to check if this amount was available. As it was exactly 10h00, I found it very strange that a large busy store such as this did not have R 1250 cash available. I obviously made a fuss about this. Thereafter she asked one of the other cashiers if she had R 1250. This cashier indicated that she did. I noticed that she had far in excess of the amount requested, when she opened the till. This took all of 20 seconds. This is an indication that Checkers front line staff provide very substandard, dismal and poor customer service. I have always bought the bulk of my groceries at Checkers. After this incident, I will reduce my spend with Checkers drastically.
