Can't get an additional card

My mother in law especially went in to a Jet store to apply for a Jet account as she felt it would be an excellent gift for her unbord grandchild. She however enquirred about giving me an additional card and was told that if I was listed or have an account wit Jet that is in arrears then she could not get me one. I admit that my credit isn't excellent but my mother in law has an excellent score and record. What is weird is that she is the account holder and will be liable for the account and thus I should not even be a deciding facto
