Store Card versus ID /Driver's License

I have been using my ID and Driver's License for making purchases on my account for a couple of years now at the Kroonstad Branch, and they have never requested me to present the store card upon making purchases, but to my surprise when I tried to make a purchase today, I was told that I can't be assisted if I don't have a store card with me, my question is, why haven't they been requesting it on my previous purchases and are only requesting it now? And the very same manager who has been helping me told me all sorts of stories. There must be other authentication modes in place if I don't have my Store card with. I was very disappointed thinking of the petrol that I wasted to get to the store
