Ariel Washing Powder Actually Works

I've had a shirt which was stained by what I think is tree sap (There's a tree over my washing line). I'd given up on the shirt and decided last year it will now be a winter shirt - which I can just cover the stains with a jersey. I've tried all sorts of things to get the stain out, even soaked the shirt entirely in Vanish Liquid.
I just actually realised my shirt is rid of the stains after I tried Ariel Auto this winter. My whites are much whiter than I've seen in a while, too. Ariel Auto is awesome. Just my clothes are a little harder now when they dry but I guess the search is on for a 'compatible' fabric softner.
