Confiscation of goods and money

Hi
We purchased goods of a value of R412.18 and the till machine froze after after they swiped the debit card and the slip didnt print out, we waited for almost 45 minutes to no avail then the branch manager was called to resolve the issue and he gave us a of the best of his attitude and the sms on the cellphone came through that the above amount was deducted from the bank account but the branch manager refused to let us go with the items we bought nor give us the money back due to his faulty till machine, and that time i was in the same situation with my 9 months pregnant wife, who was at risk of the worst i can imagine.
If anyone in the world can assist with this matter i am appealing to the whole cherckers management about the wosrt service we have ever received from the store that we will fight this case till our bank balance gives us blank notes because of poor management
