Do u want to sell?

I came in and asked someone that was working there for a water bottle.
He said checkers don't sell water bottles.
I asked him again for any type of bottle, plastic, aluminum etc.
He again said checkers don't sell it.
I explained to him the third time any empty bottle like powerade makes or something.
Again he said checkers don't sell it.

I asked someone else and they showed me to the right place.

Why tell me checkers don't sell it?
Why not just use the words "I don't know if checkers sells it, please ask someone else"?
Do you want to sell stuff or do u just want to tell everyone "we don't sell it"?
