Card declined on there side but money still deduct

I was at the The Glen Shopping center (06/07/2013) at Cape Union Mart where I wanted to purchase a knife (R99) for my father for his birthday. The shop attendant (Jacqueline I think her name was) swiped my cheque card and said it had declined. So we tried again and it still declined. I knew I had money in my account so I pulled out my cellphone to see 2 sms from Standard bank that said that (R99) had been deducted from my account. I also checked my statement quickly on my standard bank app on my cellphone and it showed me the R198 had gone off my account. The attendant argued with me to tell me it had not reflected on their side. So in frustration I just paid for the item cash. So in FACT I had paid 3 times (R297) the amount for the small item.

Now I have to go out of my way (and out of my own pocket) to contact Standard bank to reverse those two charges (which still has not been done) just because I wanted to support Cape Union Mart. I find this situation highly irritating and a lack of professionalism on the part of the staff from the Cape Union mart will ensure I (nor my family) will ever support them again.

Bad service, poor professionalism. NOT GOING TO SUPPORT THEN AGAIN!
