Sick child from rancid brownies

My 2 and a half year old ate a prepacked brownie that I bought for him yesterday morning. We came home and he told me he had a sore tummy from it. I took him and his brother to Fourways Mall and he complained again that the cookie made him feel ill. He then had a water and proceeded to projectile vomit 4 times all over himself in Woolworths, into his bag with his spare set of clothes, on my groceries, all over my Body Shop gifts for a friend's birthday and he was so sad and looked terrible. He threw up a few more times and as soon as the offending brownie was "out", he felt a lot better. The brownie was by no means huge or too much choccie for him to manage, I actually think that the butter was rancid or another ingredient was off. My poor boy was so ill and to have to chuck out a whole load of my groceries and purchases has really upset me. I will not ever go back to the store.
