How can you sell something that lasts only a year?

To whom it may concern,
I purchased 2 Telefunken TV's from House and Home last year in February with the money we received as a gift from our family for our wedding. To us it was a lot of money...
This year in March, about 2 1/2 weeks after the so called warranty period our T.V packed up and just stopped working. I took it to house and Home in Eastgate and was told it was not covered and we had to pay for it - I had to wait 2 months for somebody to come back to me with the price - R5000??? I phoned numerous times and was met with "we will call you". Is this good service?? 3 weeks later the other T.V packed up - is this normal for a Telefunken T.V??? I am absolutely flabbergasted at the service and product being sold. This is money we used from our wedding - to us its a lot of money. We can't afford to go our every year and buy a T.V..
Is this acceptable to House and Home standards or Telefunkens?? Can somebody please come back to me and explain what I am to do? Must I now pay R10 000 to get 2 TVs fixed with money I don't have?
