Second Hand Goods on the Shelf???

I recently received a gift from someone which was purchased at Game. Upon opening the gift I realised that the glassware inside was still in good condition, but the lids were damaged as if it was second hand. I tried to get hold of the receipt but the person had no longer had it. I emailed Game Customer Care and they replied that if it was glassware and that i did not have my receipt, they cannot do anything about it unless it was a gift. I replied that it was a gift and what steps should be taken from here. Since then, there has been absolutely no reply from them.

Is this what i should fear the next time i shop at Game that my goods inside a sealed box will be damaged??!!

This is unacceptable from a well known business like Game as i am usually very pleased with the products I previously purchased.
