Pick 'n Pay
Worse than terrible

Shops, Products, Services

I walked into the new store for the first time this morning, meaning to draw R200 at the cash register. On my way there I noticed two items on promotion and decided to buy them. I asked the cashier for the change of R300 after the two items had been paid for. She couldn't or didn't want to do it, called Pinky the supervisor, who then voided the transaction and I was sent to another cashier. Exactly the same thing happened there, upon which I went to the manager.

I explained the situation to him. He had some excuse that most of the staff were still new, because of the so-called equity act. I remarked that they had obviously received inferior training. He then took me to Pinky who apologised profusely and took me to yet another cashier. I explained my mission once again. This time the R300 cash was added to the purchase!

Why is it so difficult for people to understand a simple request. or is it plain incompetence? Having been in that store for the first time since it opened, it was also my last time. This incident also proves that employment equity is a myth and that people are put into positions because of ethnicity, not experience, skill or qualifications.
