Listing impacts credit record

I unfortunately went into arrears on my account some time ago. I however corrected the matter by paying the full outstanding amount Nov 2012. Since about a month ago i have been harassed by attorney that claim i owe double what was stated previously and that they have listed me at credit bureau. I had to go and search for the proof and have provided the documentation and requested that they correct it with bureau. It has been a week without any response in this regard. In the mean time my bank has rejected a homeloan application based on this. I think it is unacceptable for something that should have been corrected almost a year ago to still be outstanding, yet i can be harassed on a daily basis for so called no payment. I need this to be addressed as a matter of urgency because it is creating more problems with every passing day - i.e. every declined credit application is also reflected on your credit record.
