Ster-Kinekor
Shockingly bad projection quality

Recreation & Entertainment

Last week Thursday I went to the only cinema in the entire Cape Town area that I trust to go and watch a movie and not worry about any technical difficulties - Ster-Kinekor Cavendish.

I went to watch the brilliant new sci-fi, Oblivion. The trailers played half way through no problem, then it switched to a different reel - two of the trailers were half off the screen. Not a big deal, yes, because it's not actually the main movie so I ignored it. Then Oblivion started...

Firstly this movie was shot with an Ultra-HD DIGITAL camera, but the movie is projected on film?? Right from the start the anamorphic frame was stretched to standard wide-screen so everyone looked like they had egg heads! It took me and another patron to go and call someone to fix the issue - it was only fixed almost 10mins into the film. After that the film was still jumping and was out of focus. It seems that this 'sickness' is all over the country.

Seriously! Are all the projectionists high or asleep? I'm never paying R60 again to watch something that looks like it came from the 80's. I will rather go and buy the Blu-Ray for the same price and watch the film over and over without any issues...
