Kirstenbosch Gardens
Heavily pregnant and denied access with a chair!

Recreation & Entertainment

On Sunday, 26 January 2014, I went off to visit Kirstenbosch Gardens to spend a relaxing day with my family. I am 39.2 weeks pregnant and thought it would be nice to relax a bit before our new addition arrived.

Upon my arrival at the entrance to pay the fee I was categorically and rudely told that a was not allowed to bring in my fold up chair. I then asked where I was supposed to sit as I cannot get up and down from the ground easily and was blatantly told, I quote: 'a bench'. Whilst these benches are strewn all over, none were near where my family were sitting and most were in the sun.

I went to Centre Management but, being a Sunday, no one was available, so I spoke to someone at 'Info' who informed me that no chairs are allowed unless you are elderly, for which you need a permit anyway.

I am absolutely disgusted with this regulation and find it highly discriminatory and increases the risk for the mother! This regulation needs to be amended to allow pregnant women the opportunity to enjoy the gardens as much as everybody else!
