Shockingly large tv licence balance

I bought a television in 2007 and due to financial strain sold it 3 months later. I have since then not received communication from SABC and today found out that I am owing R2500. This is extremely exorbitant and I understand that I should have paid in the money annually but I forgot about it. I would like to settle this debt but there is no way I can afford to pay this amount. Worst of all I was only a student when I purchased this television. I would like the SABC to give me an affordable settling amount to finish this debt once and for all. I have already paid in an amount of R500 and the amount of interest charged is astounding considering the fee is 265 a year. If I cannot reduce this amount to a more affordable amount, there is a possibility I may have to consider never owning a tv set again. Please can we arrange to have this outstanding amount reduced.
