All about the money - main house with 2 flats

I was renting a flat with the agency for 6 months which at the end i decided to cancel the contract and move over to the other flat and at the same time the landlord decided to cancel their agreement with the agency aswell do to bad service and trying to control what they do on their own property in the agreement it says you cant do a contract with the landlord directly when the landlord has a contract with the agency themselves so myself and the landlord cancelled our contracts at the same time and the agency didnt have any say as what happens on the property and the following month i started a personal contract with the landlord themselves not just as renting but caretaker of the property when they are not there and we also became friends not just someone renting from someone else and now the agency refuses to pay back my deposit any agreements were cancelled so its no longer valid but they still refuse not to pay it back i paid my rent for the full 6 months and was told it was a breach of contract because i did a contract with the landlord directly but this only applies if the landlord still has a contract with the agency which was cancelled so they have no right to keep the dep
