Department Of Home Affairs
Incompetent and unhelpful staff

Politics & Government

My mother passed away on the 19 of January 2014. Upon receiving her death certificate on the 22nd of January 2014 and trying to register her Estate, it came to light that, even though my father passed away 7 years ago, her marital status was still registered as "Married", and as a result - even with the original death certificate of my father's, we could not register her Estate until her marital status had been updated and as a result no funeral policies, accounts etc could be paid out and cancelled.
We went back to the Home Affairs office in Worcester and they faxed through both my parents' death certificates and marriage certificate to Pretoria and were told that it would take two weeks.
I follow up with Pretoria this morning and according to them they never received any instructions along with the documents, so did not know what needed to be done. I tried calling Worcester Home Affairs, but the phones just ring until automatically cut off. Now we have to go back to the incompetent staff at Worcester Home Affairs and start the whole process over.
