Department of Home Affairs
Bad service

Politics & Government

On 31 December 2013 at 10:10am l attended at Paarl Home Affairs office to assist my brother apply for a study permit. I was informed that immigration officials have already left for the day and to return on 2 January 2014. I did so today. On arrival at the counter we learnt they needed to see the passport. As we didn't have the passport l drove back to Kuilsriver to fetch it. When we got back we were informed that we should go to the regional office in Durban since the university is in Durban. I take issue with the fact that Mr Godwana who served us did not bother to check if we had gone to the correct office before dismissing us for not having the passport. If this simple exercise had been performed, we would not have wasted a trip back to Paarl. I am fortunate enough that l was driving so it didn't take us long to be back at Paarl office but with the current price of fuel l would rather not have taken that trip at all. I feel for the people who borrow taxi fare to get to home affairs and are sent away for 1 item and when they come back they are told but something else is not right. Apparently Mr Godwana is standing in for officials on leave so he doesn't quite know. Eishhh
