City Of Cape Town Municipality
Charging you fees when you are not at fault

Politics & Government

I Purchased a house in April 2013. I contacted City of Cape Town to ask when I will receive my first statement. I was advised that it might take up to 3 months. September I forwarded an email requesting when I will receive my invoices (To date no reply from the email sent). All of a sudden end Sepetember I received a letter of Demand that they will disconnect my water as I did not pay my account for the last 6 months. I went to pay the R3060 outstanding only to find out that the invoices were sent to a house that I sold 3 years ago. I forwarded a complaint to the ombudsman who responed to say that they will investigate. Today I receive an email from Andrew Barnard telling me that they will not credit the Dunning Charge of R100 as it is the responsibility of the owner of a property to enquire the moment that accounts are not received and a person is liable to pay even if you do not receive an account. How am I suppose to pay if I do not have banking details or an account no. I would like the Dunning charge of R100 credited back into my account as this is not my error. Who advised them of my postal address? Surely the house purchased is your adress, not a house sold 3 years ago?
