My application still not captured after 5 months

I got my PR earlier in the year and applied for an ID on the 2nd March 2013 at the Edenvale office together with my wife. Our documents were sent to Pretoria for verification to kick start the application process. My wife's documents were verified within two weeks and her id has now been processed.
My experience was less fortunate. I am still waiting for my papers to be verified 5 months later so that my application can be captured onto the system, and the application process can start. Two ladies at the Edenvale office have been quite accomodative, refaxing my documents to Pretoria, to no avail. I have called the contact centre, but they dont even seem to understand my problem.
I am at wits end now. Since there is no record of my application, cant I just reapply at another branch? Maybe I will have better luck there.
Or can someone from Home Affairs help me please. I don't understand why it is taking so long for my documents to be verified. If there was a problem, I am sure they would have contacted me by now.
