Deep Fryer Caused a Fire & my house nearly burned

Miscellaneous

I bought a top of the range Russell Hobbs stainless steel deep frying thinking that it would be safe with a product like that. On the 31st October 2012 at about 6.15 in the evening my 21 year old daughter put on my Russell Hobbs Deep Fryer for to warm up. It usually takes about 10 minutes. After 5 minutes she smelt something burning and went to the kitchen to see what was happening. There was smoke coming from the chip machine so she unplugged it and when she lifted the lid the machine exploded and the fire quickly got out of control damaging most of my kitchen and my ceiling.

The kids tried to put out the fire with water but they burned themselves and luckily my domestic worker managed to put out the fire with a towel.

I had to rush the children to the hospital. We have had an electrician check out the electric and he confirmed that everything is still working and that the stainless steel deep fryer caused the damage.
I requested that they replace the deep fryer, pay my children's medical bills and my insurance excesses amounting to less that R500. APPARENTLY A MALFUNCTIONING THERMOSTAT and a NEARLY BURNED out house means you have no claim
