SA Post Office
Red Tape at its best!

Miscellaneous

On 15 January 2013 I emptied my post box at the Northmead Mall and in it was a notification of an international parcel for my life partner. I went into the Post Office and after waiting at least half an hour in the queque I was told that I must produce my and my husbands ID documents and a letter of authorisation. If the details on the ID documents do not correspond I must also produce a marriage certificate! Without these documents I may not collect the parcel or pay for the VAT due - alternatively he must do it personnaly!

This is not only a waste of my time for today and his (will need to to take time of work to collect during Post Office hours) and the expenses of travelling again to the post office, because we do not have a "marriage certificate" and he may not drive without his driver's license and ID document.

This is really not "customer friendly" service and these kind of RULEs are absolutely a waste of time and money which individuals and companies cannot tolerate under the current economic situation. Is it not time that government and parastatals realise that we are in the year 2013 and that service delivery is not an option anymore!
